International Women's Day #BreakTheBias

International Women's Day was first celebrated in 1911 and focused on women's rights to work, vote, and hold public office. 112 years later, this day is used to celebrate the achievements of women worldwide and to push to further lessen the gender gap.

This years theme is #BreakTheBias and encourages everyone to examine their personal biases concerning women. How can you challenge biases, both in yourself and others?

Here are some things you can do this March 8th:

  1. Support others posting about #BreakTheBias and put up your own post!

  2. Talk to your friends and family about the importance of examining gender biases

  3. Support women owned businesses

  4. Donate to a charity that supports women (such as WINhouse in Edmonton, which supports victims of domestic abuse)

  5. Acknowledge all the amazing women in your life!
